British pop artist accepts defeat after Finland and Sweden’s thrilling match-up sent her song, “I Wrote a Song,” to the bottom of the scoreboard.
Sweden have won the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with Loreen’s song “Tattoo”.
The public vote momentarily propelled Käärijä and his song “Cha Cha Cha” to the top of the scoreboard, and the final results were revealed in a suspenseful duel with Finland during the live event in Liverpool.
It was a disastrous outcome for Mae Muller, the UK’s representative, whose rendition of “I Wrote a Song” failed to impress the judges or the audience and who ultimately finished in second-to-last place. However, the 25-year-old showed up with a happy attitude once more and quickly after the results were announced, she sent a message to her followers.
She wrote, “I simply want to say thank you. “I know I make jokes a lot, but we really worked hard over the last several months. The outcome was not what we had wanted, but we are so proud of everyone and what we were able to accomplish. Congratulations to all the nations! I will always remember our voyage and I love you all.
The UK hosted the Eurovision final for the first time in 25 years at this year’s competition. After the winner for 2022, Ukraine, said that it would be unable to host owing to Russia’s continuing invasion, Liverpool was chosen as the location.
The Big Five of Eurovision (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) and Ukraine, who automatically advanced to the final, faced off against the 20 finalists, including Norway and Australia.
